Why use the OviPure™ Series?
In AI programs, some rams of high genetic value may have ejaculates with low quality traits and poor preservability. These ejaculates are always discarded before or after semen processing, leading to economic losses due to decreasing availability of insemination doses from genetically superior sires (1). The presence of dead spermatozoa, bacteria (2) and leukocyte (3) in ram semen ejaculates has been suggested to have a detrimental effect on the fertilizing ability of normal sperm cells. Recent studies on hygienic aspects of semen storage demonstrate that addition of antibiotics to commercial semen extenders is not enough to eliminate the detrimental influence of bacteria on sperm motility, viability and fertility (4). Furthermore, there is a potential risk of transmitting pathogenic microorganisms and ruminant spongiform encephalopathies (prion disease) through AI with stored ovine semen (5,6). The OviPure series eliminates all of the above risks!
How is this possible?
Density centrifugation separates motile sperm from immotile and dead sperm, from immature and senescent sperm, from sperm with damaged chromatin, from epithelial and immunological cells as well as from seminal fluid. Therewith, the motile sperm are also separated from bacterial and viral pathogens, reactive oxygen species and seminal plasma anti-fertility factors.
What is OviPure™?
A density centrifugation technique using a silane-coated, silica colloid in a nutrient salt solution. It has pharmaceutical quality and low endotoxin levels, and is terminally irradiated and aseptically packaged.
OviPure™ products can be stored unopened at room temperature for up to 1 year from production date, ensuring minimal wastage.
Technical Information
The products in the OviPure™ Series are citrate based and ready to use. Just extend the sperm with OviDilute™, then centrifuge it through OviPure™ and finally, wash the selected sperm in OviWash™. OviWash™ also acts as a transfer medium for cervical or intrauterine artificial insemination.

Store unopened at room temperature for up to 1 year from production date. After opening under sterile conditions, store sealed at 2 - 8 °C.
